Smartphones have evolved to the point where further evolution is incremental instead of revolutionary, thus heralding in the age of wearable technology, the next technical evolutionary stage after the smartphone.

Smartwatches are just becoming mainstream and have quite a way to progress before their technology reaches its limits, at which point the augmented reality nature of smart glasses will take main stage as technology of the day. This is not to say smartphones will disappear or smartwatches will be dropped in favor of smart glasses, quite the opposite in fact, the future will most likely involve a harmony of smartphones, smartwatches and smart glasses.
